Code Name Verity

Verity and Maddie are shot down over Nazi occupied France while flying a secret mission. Maddie is left for dead in the wreckage, and Verity is taken prisoner. She is tortured and forced to reveal her secret mission.
I cannot go on with the summary, this novel has one too many plot twists and turns.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein are two amazing WWII novels. Both have female protagonists and both are amazingly descriptive. If you’ve read The Book Thief, and enjoyed it, I highly recommend reading Code Name Verity. The twists and turns will keep you turning the page, and telling yourself “just one more chapter” over and over again.

Chapter 7: Moving From Fiction to Informational Books
Historical Fiction

Elizabeth Wein’s World War II novel is gripping and nerve-wrecking. She transports the reader to Nazi occupied France. She puts you right there with Queenie. You feel every emotion, and untangle every lie, cover-up, and secret as you read on.

Wein, E. (2012). Code name Verity. New York, NY: Hyperion.
