A bird and a bee walk readers
through birth and sexual health. They dialogue as they hit each and every topic
under the sun; birth, birth control, masturbation, changing bodies, sexual
lifestyles, and even sexual abuse. These heavy topics are made lighter through
the humorous illustrations.
Sexual health is a tricky topic,
and I recommend parents considering this book read it first. Not all children
are ready for every aspect of this book, so please parents, pick and choose,
you know your children better than anyone. The topics are non-biased and
present information in a straightforward, informational way. This leaves plenty
of room for families to input whatever values they hold dear.
Chapter 2: Adolescent Development
Two of Havighurst’s Theories of Developmental
Tasks are “Adolescents have to adapt to their physical bodies, and Adolescents
must define their appropriate sex roles” (Lesesne pg. 27). This book covers
both of these tasks in detail. This book will certainly help students navigate
the tricky waters of where they fit in society, and how to respond, act, and
behave properly.
