The Fault In Our Stars

Hazel is a terminally ill teenager. She has cancer, but she is afforded more time after taking a series of medications. After attending a support group for teenagers, she meets Agustus. He loves her immediately. Hazel is rapt with fear and uncertainty, but eventually allows herself to love and to be loved, but tragedy is not far behind these two.

The Fault In Our Stars is a Young Adult novel that will appeal to both teenagers and adults. Anyone who has dealt with death, loss, cancer, or teenage love will enjoy this novel. John Green writes in a way that keeps you turning every page, knowing that he is setting you up for something big. This was the first novel that brought me to tears.

Chapter 5: What Makes a Book “Good”?

John Green has a way of writing both Hazel and Agustus that cause us readers to root for them. We want them to pull through, get better, and grow closer to each other. We are wholly invested in their lives. This is what makes a good book. This is what causes readers to fall in love with the characters and the author. This is what keep readers coming back to John Green for more.
